Nobody wants sagging skin on their upper arms, and sometimes, this condition cannot be corrected through exercise alone. An arm lift is a great solution to sagging skin that creates a “bat wing” appearance due to weight loss or aging. Read on to learn more about this procedure and what to expect.

Who is a Good Candidate for an Arm Lift?

Individuals who have lost weight and are left with underarm skin, are healthy, nonsmokers, and who are at a stable weight can often benefit from an arm lift. The best way to determine if this procedure is right for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Shienbaum.

What is the Procedure Like?

The arm lift procedure involves the creation of an incision placed on the insides or backs of the arms and may extend from the underarm to just above the elbow. Excess fat may also be removed with liposuction or directly excised. Underlying supportive tissue is then tightened and reshaped, and the skin is smoothed over to create a new and more youthful arm contour.

What to Expect After an Arm Lift

After your arm lift, you will be placed in a compression garment to help reduce swelling. Be sure to wear this compression garment as directed. Any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication and should begin to decrease within 48 hours after surgery. Bruising and swelling may also occur. Most patients can return to work 1-2 weeks after their procedure and return to driving after about 10 days.
