Learn More About Lip Fillers

Many people wish their lips were fuller and plumper, especially if the natural aging process has resulted in thin or creased lips. Lip fillers add volume, enhancing the appearance of the lips and restoring a youthful look.

Lip Filler Options

Those seeking lip fillers should understand the different options available. No matter which filler you choose, administering the product involves a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed on an outpatient basis with little downtime. Brandon Plastic Surgery offers two options for lip fillers: hyaluronic acid-based fillers and fat grafting.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are temporary injectable products that smooth lines and increase fullness in the lips. Hyaluronic acid fillers, including Restylane and Juvéderm, lead to nearly instantaneous results. Treatment takes between 15 and 30 minutes, and can be administered the same day as your consultation. Results from Hyaluronic acid fillers last for several months. To maintain the look of these fillers, you could expect to have maintenance treatments every four months or so.

Fat Grafting

Fat grafting for lip fillers is sometimes called Liposculpture. Fat grafting is paired with liposuction. The fat cells removed from elsewhere in the patient’s body are then injected into the lips. This results in a natural look and feel that lasts much longer than other types of lip fillers. The results of fat grafting lip fillers last for many years; once you’ve had the treatment, there is no need to repeat it.

Which Lip Filler Option is Right for Me?

Choosing a lip filler option depends on several factors.

First, you may decide between hyaluronic acid and fat grafting based on whether or not you wish to also have liposuction. Fat grafting requires that fat cells are harvested from elsewhere in your body, so the process is more involved than hyaluronic acid fillers.

You should also consider whether you’re seeking permanent or temporary results, and whether you’re willing to repeat treatments to maintain the appearance of your lips. Hyaluronic acid treatments last for a few months, after which you will need to receive more injections as the product is naturally broken down by the body over time.

Ultimately, Dr. Shienbaum can help guide your decision during a consultation to determine a lip filler method that leads to beautiful results.
