Learn More About Mini Facelift Surgery
Surgery is often the only option to truly address signs of aging in the face, such as jowls or sagging. However, a facelift can be an intimidating procedure, with relatively significant recovery time and extensive changes to the face.
Fortunately, patients can get the results they are looking for through a less extensive procedure known as a “mini facelift.” Dr. Shienbaum offers mini facelifts as an effective way to tighten the facial features for a youthful appearance through a less invasive surgery than a traditional facelift.
Also known as a “short scar lift,” the mini facelift involves minimal incisions near the ears and the hairline behind the ears. The tissues are then pulled upwards and outwards to reduce skin laxity, jowls, and wrinkles. Because the incisions are smaller, Dr. Shienbaum will have limited access to the facial muscles, excess skin, and other tissues in the face. This means that the results will differ from that of a “full” facelift. However, patients are left with a more youthful appearance, specifically to the cheek and brow areas.
The incisions used in a mini facelift as well as the overall change is lessened than in a traditional “full” facelift. This results in a shorter recovery and smaller scarring.
Most patients can return home immediately after their mini facelift surgery. Some patients are able to return to work and other normal, non-strenuous activities within a week.
During the recovery process, Dr. Shienbaum may advise you to wear a compression garment, which will reduce swelling, and prescribe painkillers for a more comfortable healing process. Most patients experience bruising, swelling, and redness as they recover, as well as a tightening sensation around the lower portion of the face. Numbness near the ears can also occur, but should subside as healing progresses.
Mini facelifts are good options for those who wish to address sagging or drooping skin in the face, but do not yet show more advanced signs of aging. Some patients have chosen a mini facelift in their 40s, so that they may retain a youthful appearance for longer. If the skin on the face is more advanced in its sagging or drooping, a traditional facelift may be required.
Mini facelift candidates should be generally healthy overall. They should ideally be nonsmokers.
