You may have heard of a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), but did you there are several different ways to perform this plastic surgery procedure? We will be discussing each type of tummy tuck offered by Dr. Shienbaum and Dr. Gargya to help you get an idea of which procedure might be right for you and your cosmetic goals.

Traditional Tummy Tuck

A traditional tummy tuck removes excess fat and sagging skin from the abdominal and tightens the abdominal muscles. Many people choose to have this procedure after pregnancy or significant weight loss since the muscles weaken and sagging skin is left behind. The traditional or standard tummy tuck requires a vertical incision along the bikini line, but this scar can be hidden by your bathing suit or underwear. Since a large portion of excess skin is removed, stretch marks present on the treatment area are also eliminated, giving you smooth skin and a smooth contour.

Hourglass Tummy Tuck

The hourglass tummy tuck is a more extensive procedure that combines a traditional tummy tuck with liposuction and a Brazilian butt lift. Liposuction eliminates stubborn fat on the abdomen, hips, back, and flanks during this procedure to achieve more dramatic stomach and waist slimming along with smooth lower body contours. This fat is harvested and used in a Brazilian butt lift, performed simultaneously with your tummy tuck, to enhance all your lower body curves.

Mini Tummy Tuck

The mini tummy tuck is a great option for women with localized fat and sagging skin on the lower stomach. This often creates a “stomach pouch” that can make women feel self-conscious. A mini tummy tuck uses a smaller incision (usually 4-8 inches long) since there is less excess fat and skin that needs to be removed. The upper abdominal area and weakened abdominal muscles are not treated with this procedure and the belly button is not repositioned.

Scarless Tummy Tuck

The scarless tummy tuck is a minimally invasive procedure that uses BodyTite to tighten loose fibrous tissues connecting the skin to the abdominal muscles. BodyTite technology involves a small wand equipped with radiofrequency (RF) energy. When this wand is inserted under the skin through a tiny incision, the RF energy heats the dermal layers, creating the tightening effect. Unlike other tummy tuck procedures that require general anesthesia, the scarless tummy tuck can be performed under local anesthesia or twilight anesthesia.
