While the ears may not be a part of the body that most worry about, they can make a big impact on your overall appearance. When the ears are protruding or overly large, they can cause self-consciousness for many. Children, in particular, feel embarrassed of their large ears, and often suffer teasing from their peers. Ear surgery in Brandon can improve the shape and proportion of the ears for a more confident you!

What is the Procedure Like?

Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, is done in-office under IV sedation. A small incision will be made behind the ear, and cartilage is reshaped and repositioned using sutures. Because the incision is placed behind the ear, the faint scar it creates will be hidden from view. Your ears will be wrapped in dressings, and most patients can return home the same day as the procedure.

Is There Significant Downtime?

During the first week of recovery, patients should keep their heads elevated and sleep in a reclined position. After one week, you will need to return to the office for a check-up visit to ensure that the ears are healing optimally and any stitches will be removed. Final results will be visible after about two weeks.

If you or your child are living with protruding ears, ear surgery may be able to help. This procedure can be performed on children as young as six years old to correct protruding ears.
