Myth #1: Only board-certified plastic surgeons can perform plastic surgery or cosmetic procedures.

Truth: Any doctor with a valid medical license can perform plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery procedures. Because of this, it is very important that you do your research and be sure to find a board-certified plastic surgeon for best results.

Myth #2: Plastic surgery procedures are always performed in an accredited operating facility.

Truth: Only board-certified plastic surgeons are required to perform surgery in an accreted facility. This means that surgery from doctors who are not board-certified could result in unwanted side-effects or complications.

Myth #3: All Cosmetic surgeons are plastic surgeons.

Truth: Only physicians certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) are true plastic surgeons. These physicians must achieve 6-9 years of medical training, as well as pass a rigorous oral exam. Cosmetic surgeons are not required to complete the same education and training.
