With new statistics out from American Society of Plastic Surgeons from 2015, the US was focused primarily on the rise of the derrieres, or larger, rounder, shapelier butts! Buttock augmentations were the fastest growing cosmetic procedure last year with a buttock surgery performed approximately every 30 minutes of every day.

Plastic Surgeons are now seeing more diverse areas of the body that patients are choosing to address. According to ASPS President David H. Song, “Patients have more options than ever, and working closely with their surgeon, they’re able to focus on specific target areas of the body to achieve the look they desire.”

The most popular buttock surgery is augmentation utilizing fat grafting, or more commonly referred to as a Brazilian butt lift. This procedure involves harvesting unwanted fat from other parts of the body, such as the thighs, abdomen, or flanks, then utilizing that purified fat to reshape, add volume and contour the butt. Last year, Brazilian butt lifts saw a 28 percent increase from 2014 with 14.705 procedures performed. Buttock lifts and implants had a 36 percent increase in 2015, showing that the rear is the front runner in the plastic surgery trend.

Despite the surge of buttock augmentation, it still can’t compete with breast augmentation with implants, which actually had a 2 percent decrease since 2014, with 279,143 procedures performed. Liposuction was the next most popular procedure with just over 222,000 surgeries, up 5 percent from 2014. Nose reshaping or rhinoplasty took third place; blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery took fourth; and finally, tummy tucks came in fifth with a 9 percent increase from 2014.

Although buttock augmentation still has a far way to go before catching up to the top 5 cosmetic procedures, it may still happen if this trend continues to progress.
