Tummy Tuck Revisions

Tummy tuck procedures are immensely popular, but the outcomes are not always perfect. Over the years Dr. Shienbaum has revised many “botched” tummy tucks for a multitude of reasons. These include poorly trained and unqualified surgeons, wound healing issues, poor patient selection and the lack of artistic appreciation of the natural aesthetic body contours. Dr. Shienbaum cannot stress enough the importance of selecting a highly skilled and seasoned surgeon, one with years of proven expertise who can provide hundreds, if not thousands, of documented personal before and after photographic results.

Reasons for Tummy Tuck Revisions and Re-dos

In his years of practice in the Tampa Bay area Dr. Shienbaum has consulted with many women who were dissatisfied with their prior abdominoplasty procedure. Many of these women did not feel that the original surgery met their expectations. Others simply wanted additional body contouring enhancement. The main reasons for seeking secondary tummy tuck corrections are as follows

Dr. Shienbaum and his staff are amazing and so caring! I was so pleased with my results and how quickly I felt back to normal! Would recommend to anyone!”

What techniques can improve the appearance of Tummy Tuck Scars?

Dr. Shienbaum utilizes multiple modalities to improve tummy tuck scars, including Fractional CO2 lasers, Radiofrequency, Microneedling, Derambrasive skin resurfacing, steroidal PRP, and fat injection.

Abdominoplasty Revision Procedures

While many patients dissatisfaction focuses on one or two issues or concerns, Dr. Shienbaum takes the time to assess the entire result. In your private consultation he will carefully evaluate what was done, how it was performed, what needs be corrected, and the most effective way of achieving his acclaimed signature hourglass tummy tuck look. He will address issues of misshapen navels, persistent protuberance, widened incisions, poorly positioned scars, lax skin, residual fat, and lack of contour and definition. You can view Dr. Shienbaum’s results in his extensive Tummy Tuck Photo Gallery.

For your convenience, Brandon Plastic Surgery offers both in-person and virtual tummy tuck consultations.

How to minimize Tummy Tuck Scars

There are several things one can do lessen the appearance of scars. While it is difficult to totally remove existing scars, these can help make them less visible.

  • Follow your post-operative instructions carefully, especially regarding wound care, dressing changes, activity levels, and bathing.
  • Look for any signs of infection including redness, purulent drainage, or foul odors.
  • Avoid sun exposure. Ultraviolet light can darken or alter the final appearance of your scar.
  • Use sunblock and protective clothing.
  • Listen to your surgeon’s instructions and not what you may read on the internet.
  • Avoid any use of nicotine products including smoking, vaping, pills, or patches. Nicotine directly inhibits the body’s ability to heal wounds.
  • Applying silicone-based scar patches or medical grade silicone creams may be beneficial, but always ask your surgeon first.
  • Soft compression garments which support tissues and reduce incision tension can aid in the final appearance of your scars.
  • Massaging scars can help, but hold off until permitted to do so by your surgeon.
  • Keep a positive attitude, as the final result will take weeks if not months to achieve.
  • Avoid tight-fitting clothes or products which rub up against and irritate the scar. This will cause inflammation, which will worsen the final appearance and result.

What is the best topical scar fading treatment?

The best and most scientifically proven scar fading topical treatment is to apply a product containing silicone. Whether applied as a cream, gel, or sheeting, silicone seems to be the most important ingredient. Silicone works as an occlusant, which maintains the normal hydration of the skin, thereby preventing the excess formation of collagen deposition and subsequent scar tissue buildup.

Other topicals such as vitamin E, cocoa butter, mineral oil, petroleum, and cold creams have not shown the same degree of scientific efficacy. The best time to apply is when the incisions are free of any remaining skin adhesive, tissue glue, tape, or skin crusts. Most ointments and creams will remove the skin adhesive and may cause the wound to reopen.

What is the cost of a Tummy Tuck Revision?

The cost of a tummy tuck revision depends on the degree of deformity and complexity of repair. Often a simple liposuction recontouring or a BodyTite radiofrequency skin tightening is all that is required. An Umbilicoplasty procedure can restore a misshapen or deformed navel, and a mini tummy tuck revision can remove lower abdominal excess and adjust a high-riding scar as well as lift a sagging mons pubis. Fortunately, the majority of tummy tuck re-dos can be performed in our office surgery facility under local anesthesia, the cost ranging anywhere from $1,500 to over $10,000 for a complete secondary abdominoplasty procedure.
